Mike, I hit the sal workshop in Chicago. Worth the little bit I paid but so many annoying questions from clueless folks.

Dave and I sat in the front row so we were asking a lot of questions and then the photographers with experience started asking questions and the newer ones pretty much kept quiet. Myself and a few others put him on the spot about his methods and some of his bravado and he clarified what he does and backed down a bit.

Do not agree with him one bit on his method of selling product to clients. When i put him on the spot, he side tracked and clarified. I think the last thing you want to do is get someone in a private selling session and use hard nosed sneaky sales tactics,,,,,,I wont go there at all. He was preaching borderline tactics in my opinion. I think that give photographers a bad reputation so i completely disagree.

We will modify what we do, but we would never adopt these tactics. I think someone like Beth Forrester is very up front about what she does so her sales approach is the one we have adopted. Never want our clients to feel like they came to a used car sales lot to purchase their products------never ever will go there. Beth does it the best. I have modeled much of what we are going to do after her.....so thats why i baught an eyeliner:p

My opinion is Sal is very good and he has an excellent marketing program, so that's why i was there. I don't believe he gets a 1500.00 sales average for his senior programs. I get what he is saying but i know from many that we know in the business that those figures are not realistic. Same for most of the instructors that are saying they are.

Additionally. While his work is very good, its not as good as some of the guys here on POTN like Tony for example. I think what most of us do in this forum is on par with what he does. He shoots at F/2.8 and daylight lighting. He shoots modeling type sessions. Sound familiar ?? He says he uses a make up artist and hair stylist for every session. I simply don't believe him and its not the norm for senior photographers in the industry. Lots of stuff he could feed a newb but definately not going to feed it to someone like you, myself, pham, tony, bobby and others who have been kind enough to provide information to help a newer photographers out. Just not buying the bravado.

He is showing you his best stuff over the past 5 yrs, he is selling marketing programs and actions for $600.00, he is promoting his new album line up and unless you know better and have an idea as to whats going on with the senior portrait market, you might get sucked into buying a lot of that stuff.

I sat in the front row too....RIGHT in front of him....however, there were so many newbs just blathering on.....it sounds like you had a better experience. And, yes, there was a whole lot of promoting going on.

Oh, goodness. I don't really remember....typically something he just talked about. Like if he said that he would occasionally offer shoots in a different city they were all, so you offer shoots in a different city. Like, a city you don't live in. And they travel to that city. Crap like that.

1st of all... Nice set! My only critique is the feet growing out of her head. If I were you I would just clone them out.

*guilty*

This is becoming more and more common for me. More like modeling sessions. At the very least they have their hair and makeup done professionally prior to the shoot. Now (as with Meredith below) more and more girls are bringing h/mua's for the duration of the shoot. I'm starting to sell the experience as much as the final images. Granted, I'm only doing about two or three per month but this summer will be my first "full" season for this; I'm anxious to find out how it goes.

Wow, around here I've never heard of seniors bringing in hair and makeup artists, not even getting it done professionally before a photoshoot.

Geeze, I guess us Iowan's aren't as high maintenance.
