I'm trying to get into a little bit into video recording, and I was wondering what are some of the good External Mics out there for 60D? Any preferences?

Bought a Rode Videomic for my 7D, quite pleased with it. Audio can be an expensive game though if you want to get serious :)

I wanted a stereo mic for my 7D videos, and after some research got the Azden SMX-10. I never compared it with any others, but it works well enough and the $85 price was very reasonable. The only complaint is the low end is not the greatest, but you just have to crank up the Bass a little during playback.

Here is a short video I made using this mic of my 17 year old son's basement band: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-PDMyqCoLU (external link)

Zoom H1. And lucky your 60D has manual audio control. I miss that. (had 60d b4).

I just bought the Rode VideoMic Pro - the +20db seems to work well

Bit crazy the 7D doesn't have audio input gain control - think I'm going to get rid of mine anyway.

If you get the Azden SMX-10 for your 60D (see msowsun's post above), be sure to buy from someplace that allows returns, in case you don't like it. I got the SMX-10 for my 60D and was initially unhappy with it (more here). I haven't yet decided if I want to keep it or return it. There is some noise (hissing), but only in some conditions.

The Rodes are more expensive and too big for me, but by all reports very good mics.
