Some USM and way to sharp for me with this type of softly lit, soft portrait.

The raw file is sharp and these JPGs are both at least two generations beyond raw, less than 100 kb and from photobucket.

If we need to discuss further we should start another thread otherwise back to topic.

Very nice smoke pics. I have been looking at so many of the setup shots here. There are so many on want to turn into wall art to fill open wall space in the house. The smoke and water drop ones are great for that. The water bead pics with M&Ms, Skittles, etc are great too. My mom wants me to do those for crafts she makes and sells. Then, you have those with the pro level nature pics that I could only dream of.

Trying a little tweak on the macro water drop shot I've done in the past. (Here's the old post with the reflection/refraction)

IMAGE: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7189/6987759061_c1f8e3ca82_b.jpg

And here's the not so good setup shot. I did end up holding the reflector you can see in the background on the opposite side from the softbox. (side the photo was taken from)

Nothing crazy, just some product shots for my buddies shop. I used the stool to kneel on to get a tad bit high vantage point.

You've got better knees than I, Sevan. I can't do that anymore. :(
Nice shot. How would it look with a piece of black felt underneath?

Lakhum,
What are you using for your solid light, a flash gun or a strobe on full?

Thanks Gary, dunno but they wanted the shot to looks like it was in a shop environment. I also do the product shots on a clean white BG in the house as well.

2x alien B800's
2x 13' HD stands
1x Paul C Buff Large foldable soft box
1x Photoflex 60" unbrella
1x home made boom arm.
1x lead shot bag as a weight on the boom arm stand

I was shooting between 1/8 to 1/4 power on the lights. Hope that helps.

Sevan

After months and months reading and enjoying this thread I'll add some shots I took this weekend.

I used my daughter's easel complete with roll of white paper as a seamless background.
Flash was tripod mounted Nissin Di622 Mk II, bounced off the white ceiling, and connected via a DIY extended lead.
Canon 40D and nifty fifty lens.

I tried some with a drink glass in them, but the glass always got washed out so maybe a black background would be better for that.

Maybe I need to up the exposure a little to wash out the background more.

C&C welcome

Matt
