I also figured out how to get it running on ubuntu.
1)Install ubuntu 11.04 into a virtual machine (not 11.10 or later)
2)start synaptic package manager and search for libwxgtk2.8
- this is a gui runtime-
3)install it and now execute ZN with ./ZN

well, i tried to work with the linux version-no luck.
I made sure dcraw was copied to /usr/bin of course.
I fired up ZN and immediately noticed some control elements were missing-for example, the the button to import raw files and the tabs next to 'raw development' are missing.

I can click on where the button should be and in fact, get an 'open dialog'
I navigate to a file - either jpg or raf (a fuji raw file -> a sushi file? bad joke)
A progress bar rapidly flashes across the screen and ZN crashes and disappears.

So I guess I need more details from kirkt to get this working-
Which packages are needed in addition to natty narwhal (ubuntu 11.04)?

really dont like using windows....

I'll have to check which version of linux I was using to get ZN to run. If I recall, I had problems with the linux version of ZN outputting TIFF files that I could not open outside of Linux, which is a serious problem for my work flow.
