Damn, Singapore is so close to Bangkok, but I was told 2 weeks here.

Nope it cost only SGD$4250, and with an average exchange rate of US$1=SGD$1.25, that works out to be $3400. Some got it at SGD$4100+. It was the first time we actually managed to get Canon gears cheaper than US, not forgetting we pay 7% GST too.

The people complaining that they look soft realize these things I hope:
1. He shot it JPEG
2. A far distance with what looks like heat haze
3. He was not focused on the sign at all
4. Maybe through a window? Meaning glass and whatever comes with that.
5. Most of all.... he shot it JPEG

It's a mirror shot.

I still have to see ONE sharply focused picture out of the 5DIII. What the heck is going on here?

You don’t think something is going on to make the image soft, I do. My 7D and older bodys are sharper than that sample.

I just seen this on top of the picture on the web site "Me, who deserves a much better focus"

TEST (EXTREME UNDEREXPOSURE) (4 STOPS PULL IN PP) = not bad but the scene don't have large patch of dark shadows and 100% crop might still reveal vertical banding...

Canon purposely made the pictures not sharp, their lawyers asked them to, they were afraid people would get cut on the sharp pictures.

In that case, it is likely that you have your lights pointed to directly towards the camera. I take it that you had a hairlight on that side, behind the model?

A hood should cut flare from any light outside the FoV, but if it is only just outside the view some can still get through, particularly with a strong light source like a strobe.

Do you only get flares when shooting with light sources just outside the FoV? It may be a simple case of moving your lights a little, although I must admit that flare does seem unusually excessive for a shot with a hooded prime lens.

It increases speed of focus, especially useful for sports.

It also stops the camera from trying to focus on that idiot that walks in front of you on the sideline when your trying to shoot.
