I shoot RAW + JPG so I can have a decent image to look at for the bulk of my photos that I don't need to proces the RAW for.

you could shoot just raw and grab the embedded jpeg out of it with a program like photomechanic :)

I shoot RAW + small basic jpeg because going through JPEG files and judging which ones are worthy of PP takes less time than opening and checking out every last RAW file to see if they're worth PP'ing.

Now if I used LR it'd be a whole different matter, but seeing as I don't, this is the only choice I have. I'd imagine it's the same for many people.

Just got a 5DC off FM and I'm loving the dof and the low light performance. This was ISO 1600 and pushed 3 stops in lightroom with a decent amount of NR. Still looks okay for low-res use to me :) Also I really like the wider fov on my 50 1.8 now...always thought it was too tight to use on a crop.
