Actually what I mean as slow is the actual shutter lag, this shows it much better. http://www.impulseadventure.com/photo/shutter-lag.html (external link) combine that with focus lag and its major, my MKIIn is .004 where as the 5D is .075 the 20D is .076 so there real close, 10D is .091, and what i was talking about the 3200 for 100 of a sec is trying to capture any action above 100 of a sec you need to have high iso,and that introduces noise, unless your running flash in manual mode at 160th or 200th in dim lite is fine, but that little bit of shutter lag does introduce trails, unlike my mkIIn or MKIII hope that explains it better.

ahh. Shutter lag. Definitely slower than the 1D II. View Finder black out seems longer as well. I bought this camera to use for landscapes and portraits and as a backup for my 5D3 when it arrives. For what I will be using it for, it works perfectly; but speed is not it's strong suit. Compared to the 60D, it feels almost as responsive. So far the only thing I don't like about it is the mushy shutter button.

I suppose shutter lag might be an issue if you were used to a camera with less, but its not so bad you can time a shot. I'm not really understanding your example though. If your shutter speed is the same on a 1 series and and the 5D in the same light and the same ISO, then what would be the difference?

To be exact you need a shutter speed above 100of a sec to be able to knock out trails or movement in your subjects ither it be waving arms eyelids, etc.. in dim lite shutter speeds of say 40th of a sec on the 5d will give trails where as on my MKIIN or 60D or MKIII etc does not, true its dependent on the lens for aperture but regardless of what lens that slow lag effects any movement compared to a shutter lag of .004 to 5D's .075

but i'm not knocking the image quality, its simply the best, but its strictly studio and landscape, and as far as the wedding is what i was referring to those fellows using it, it wud drive me nuts

I always thought shutter lag was the amount of time between pressing the shutter and the shutter firing. I don't see how shutter lag can affect shutter speed; unrelated. 100th of a second ss is 100th of a second. Correct me if I'm wrong...

its also dependent on focus lock, the time it takes to lock focus and getting that shutter down, this says it better

  • Total Lag - The sum of Autofocus Lag and Shutter Release Lag. This is the delay most often seen when "pre-focusing" is not done, or in times when one is trying to take a picture quickly (ie. without setting it up).
Obviously, the larger the total lag time for a camera, the more noticeable and frustrating the delay becomes. In purchasing a new camera, one should carefully compare the differences in total lag between different models, as some cameras are much faster than others in this respect. Make sure that you are comparing the time it takes to shoot the same object (as different objects will lead to different autofocus lag delays).

I can lock on focus and shot faster time and the same speed of the 5d and the MKIIN and the 5d is slow in that respect.

Yello!
So good to be back on POTN after some time.
I just bought a 5D last Saturday, and it has a different feel compared to my 50D.
I really love it and it's nice to see 'the old folks' still here still loving their 5D.
I remember tonylong, mikekelley, kf095, gonzogolf, guys whose images made me drool over this beautiful creature. :D

Will be back with some images (I hope) LOL

Cheers! :D

Those beer shots look OOF...

Sorry bout that. I just bought my first DSLR and I'm having trouble. All of my shots have been turning out bad in "M" mode, so I have been using the camera in "P" mode. It seems like a lot of my shots are OOF. Do you think my lens needs to be calibrated or something? Or is it because I'm a beginner? I mean with the camera set to "P" it should be practically doing everything for me right? Unless, my hands are incredibly shaky??

Sorry about the bad pics. I thought I caught some great shots last night.

I have a lot to learn...

It certainly could be a bit of camera shake instead of focus. The shutter speeds on the beer shots are right at the minimum handheld speed for the lens you used. The rule of thumb is 1/focal length. Some people can go slower, some need even faster.
