how much "black mask" do you do on a 2.39:1 frame? is there some standard?

One way would be to make the total canvas 16:9 and the image 2.39:1. If you do that, the size and dimension of the "bar" take care of themselves.

I know exactly where that shot was taken - we were staying at the cheaper (er, more affordable) hotel directly behind you ! They have a beautiful lobby, the Savoy does...

Thanks. I do like the colour of this one too because the regular cyan blend made the walls and lights look a bit off. I wish that blue cone wasn't there, but nothing can be done about it now.
