Any comments regarding auto focus speed and accuracy of this lens on 50D body, when shooting indoors? How is the auto focus speed compared to EF 50mm f/1.4 for example?
Thanks in advance!

With my piece, AF was definitely not an issue. Not slow not particularly noisy for a non usm AF.

Can't offer a comparison to th 50mm f1.4 but I was out on Saturday night and took this of a band that were playing, unfortunately it is well beyond the capabilites of my 450D as I needed to shoot at ISO1600 at f2.8 and 1/20th and still pull detail out in PP. I should also point out that I had spent all day drinking as it was my birthday ;) AF worked really well given the fact that it was very very dark and picture is fuzzy because SS was to slow and so was I.

Landscapes are not supposed to be done at such wide apertures. Close the aperture down and use a tripod to deal with the slow shutter speed.

thank you,

Make sure you have good conditions before judging the autofocus. Sunny, iso low, high shutter speed, and center focus point, and something cotrasty to focus on.

If you select multiple focus point, de camera decides on its own which to use. It could be the one in the water for example.

Just bought one here on POTN, looking forward to using it!

I was on the fence about this or any of the Sigma versions (17-70 or the 18-50 2.8), but I think I made a wise choice after seeing how many people rave about this lens.

Canon S100 : Canon T2i : Sigma 17-50 2.8 : EF 70-200 f4 L : 50mm 1.8 : Sigma 10-20 : 40mm 2.8 : 430EXii
