I'm waiting on some reviews. Whilst i'm more or less sold this is an upgrade along the lines of the 70-200L 2.8 upgrade, it's a lot of money. The lens it's replacing is pretty awesome

I wonder if we could call a sup at amazon and find out if they plan on opening a preorder. I emailed and chatted with them. They were absolutely no help, but with Amazon that's kind of to be expected. Customer service is great after you buy something, before that, it's just whatever is on the website. 5D III | 7D | 17-40 L | 24-105 L | 50 1.4 | 70-200 2.8L IS II

For me, it's just not a huge upgrade compare to the old 24-70L. The price doubles and it doesn't even offer a IS system nor a longer focal length. My trusty 24-70L is sharp and takes great images.

I really want to get the 24-70 mark ii but I can't afford that much for that lens. i really need to see reviews and how sharp it is before I buy it. I'd like to see some tests and read about personal experiences before I trade my current one for a II. Will there be plenty of supply or do they run short like bodies ? I have never preorded a lens before. Thanks ! It's a lens I want to own, but at 70% more than the existing 24-70 it's very, very expensive. Plus we don't know what it performs like. So on that basis I'm not preordering, but if it's really sharp wide open across the whole zoom range I'll keep an eye out for any price drops / rebates, etc. I expect it will be a heck of a lens .. more like the 24-105 in build which means lighter weight and with more modern optics. The price is just ridiculous. I think waiting for price drops and rebates is the way to go. Jean | Canon 5D Mark III + Grip | 5D Mark II + Grip

I understand a lot of skepticism here, but I've gone ahead and pre-ordered the mark II. I really love my 70-200 f/2.8 IS II and I'm basically giving Canon the benefit of the doubt that the 24-70 II is a worthy replacement and justifies the huge cost increase. I'm not sure that's a rational decision though... 5D III | 7D | 17-40 L | 24-105 L | 50 1.4 | 70-200 2.8L IS II

I am sure it will be a superb lens and that eventually I'll get it if there's a price drop or a deal at a retailer that would make it more reasonable for me to get it. The 5D3 left my wallet rather hollow. haha Jean | Canon 5D Mark III + Grip | 5D Mark II + Grip
