That's awesome, I would love to see a setup shot of one of your car shoots if you don't mind. I also like to have the image close to final product straight out of camera. The less I have to do in photoshop the better. BUT, lights get expensive lol.

True, but I fly my retoucher out from new mexico when I need him, and that gets expensive too since he is on site when I have a large job that I will not be doing the retouching. And his hourly rate of $120/hr is better to have me light the car correctly while I have it since I charge by the day to shoot a car, so 1 hour or 3 is the same price and the studio is a flat rate for up to 16 hours for a full day.

The list goes on.

I've learned so much on light ( scientifically, etc ), photography in general, and the business of photography. I think my images have improved over the past few months drastically, and I like the direction I'm headed at the moment. This all happened @ Barnes & Noble. I spent a whole day just reading. T'was a good day.

share some of those book names :) your shots are looking awesome :D

Here is one from today, shot with (not a canon ) e640 above in octa, and b800 below in softbox.
shot with a 24mm equivalent.

First try with Einstein. Made the stupid mistake of leaving modelling light on at full. Couldn't figure our why VML was giving burning smell till it died completely in short time. Recharging it right now. Hope battery is OK.

E640 in Octa camera left.

Very nice Bobby. How many shots did you get before you realized the poor thing was dying?

the vml should be ok, i believe on their pcb website it says it can run the modeling lamp ,but it drastically reduces battery life

1/2 hr or 3/4 hr. Lukcy I had another VML in the car. Hooked that one up and same smell. Then the thing darned on me as I was playing with new CC couple of nights before which turns on modelling lamp to full.

Nice set up. What kind of booms are you using? and how are you triggering all that?

Thanks, I used the Manfrotto 420B stands for the Alien Bee strobes and some cheap $10 stands for the speedlights. To trigger the lights I use the Cactus v5 transceivers.
