5DM3 Sports photos take 2

Isn't the 5dMkIII AF taken from the new 1Dx? If so, I'm not surprised that it performs so brilliantly.

How the heck do you ever hope to recoup even part of your investment in gear charging $4 for a 4x6 and under $10 for an 8x10!

It looks as if the new camera is well up to shooting sports, though.

First of all, i am not a fulltime photographer, I freelance a lot for local papers which is where the majority of photography income comes from. Print sales add to that The new 400mm is crazy expensive if you are just buying it out right but I doubt we will see another update to that lens for 15+ yrs. so I have many years to "recoup" my investment. I could have done much worst and brought a boat

Enjoying what you do adds years to your life.

Looks nice but ISO2500, -EV and ss of 1/640. That is pretty good lighting IMHO. Would love to see some sequneces also or some thought. Let us say you take 10 shots of player coming at you. How many in focus when seeing closer to 100%. Not denying the camera isn't good. Just trying to see the real meat. It would be nice to shoot night time high school football at higer ISOs without needing flash.

Edited - Checked on the site, not bad but would still like to see some shots from more crappy (lightining wise) highs school standiums.

I will leave it to you to rent a 5DM3, go to a high school stadium with "crappy lighting" and shoot whatever sequence of shots you desire

I am not trying to provide a full technical review of the 5DM3. I simply have been sharing my thoughts after shooting two lacrosse games that I had plan to shoot whether I had a 5DM3 or not. I would have shot them with my 1DM4 had I not purchased this camera for my wife.

I am not asking for you do it. All I am saying is the lighting you have even 5-6 old camera should be able to handle it. AF I don't know, it better be good now with all those AF points.

That is impressive performance from the 5X series no doubt!!! Regardless of lighting, that's solid performance right there.

Shot another lacrosse game last night with the new 5DM3 and my 400mm f/2.8L IS II and left my 1DM4 at home. Last night reinforced my impressions of using the 5DM3 from the previous night. I definitely do believe that the AF & tracking on the 5DM3 outperforms that of the 1DM4 especially under the stadium lights. I am getting more keepers and love the image quality and see a good improvement at higher ISO settings like 4000 on the 5DM3. 157 images from nights game are being uploaded to: http://jprimages.com …oys/2012/vbhs/s​rhs/032212

I think the photos are great. Looks like the camera and the guy pressing the button both performed well. But - you are not nice. I've been trying to avoid both the 5D3 and the 400 f/2.8 - successfully so far. I already have a boat.

Hey Dan, I REALLY like guys who have boats, especially when they let me go out with them in their boats. I don't mind paying for fuel and appreciate all the time and money you have to spend to maintain your boat. When I see those big 200hp outboards my new 400mm f/2.8 doesn't look so expensive

Nice osprey shot.

Several series of filling the buffer bursts at higher frame rates under different servo conditions and lighting is the only real informative post .. I know that's what I try to shoot every time I get a new body. That way you know what percent are in focus, and where any AF deficiencies may lie.

It's no trouble to cherry pick and post only those that are sharp. Not by any means am I saying that's what the OP or anyone else is doing but a full series is the definitive test.
