Anyone uses his 70-200 2.8L on holiday for candids of his kids playing at the pool?

Maybe i'm the only lazy tourist here :) but we have a 4yo daughter, so we can't do much excursions and we always take a kids-friendly hotel where she can play at the swimming pool slides.
Last year I sat at the swimming pool and could make some nice candids.

Later on I walked in the pool with my 16-35 II and recorded some wide angle movies, nice memories for later of her first holiday abroad.
Anyone uses also a 70-200 2.8L to take candids of their kids on holiday, or do you find a 70-200L too exagerated at the pool :)

I bring my 70-200 2.8 IS II with me where ever I go including local pools. I get a lot of looks that's for sure. :)

People tend to make an assumption when they see a big camera and lens at a pool..and it's not a good one.

Ironically, if my Wife had the camera, most people wouldn't be as worried. I generally take my S100 or my waterproof panasonic to a pool, if anything.

Sounds like a job for a few of those $10 waterproof film disposables. That way you can jump in the pool & have some fun while you shoot .. and give your daughter a disposable as well .. all my children were accomplished photographers by their 5th birthday

Yeah but for the first holiday I wanted the best IQ, nice bokeh, lowlight at restaurant with 35L... so I could make a great album afterwards.

Don't know if digital disposable camera's exist for the pool part, so you never take your cam with you on holiday?
I planned once to buy a Olympus XZ-1 and use it with waterproof case (it has an 1.8 lens and nice bokeh for compactcam), but didn't buy it after all.

Once your used to quality glass you get too picky about IQ :)

I only have 2 lens for now, but i bring them both everywhere, mall, pool, park, restaurant, etc. I just dont care what others think when they see me. I dont take a lot of shots, when we eat out maybe i have it out for 30mins then put back in my bag. I always have nice pics though, even if its just 5-10 keeper per outing.
