Who's Pre-Ordering the 5D MKIII?

just out of curiosity, when you did the shot with the cap on the body at iso 6400, how long did you set the shutter for?

I did 30 seconds and a 10 seconds. Then I mowed the lawn at full zoom. Thirty seconds was pretty good. Noise was usable. 10 seconds shows nothing. It was pitch black. Of course you can remap pixels by self cleaning like the mark II, I guess.

I believe the mark II can focus. It's the shutter lag that snaps and gets the subject when they had already left the depth of field during action shots.

I'll be getting mine soon as well

Hoping my 90's lenses will hold up well with it. Also, 70-200 II IS

I tried the manual clean option for 30 seconds but it didn't do anything, I think that only clears the red ones.

Has anyone used the Hoodman Hoodskins on the LCD screen on the back of the camera?

If so, how well do they stay on the screen during 'normal' usage?

In the past the screen protector was built in, so using a 3rd party was a moot point. With the new 5D3, the glass is fused directly and there is no factory protector, correct?

So the general consensus is to get a protector for the top and rear glass? I typically never do since I can replace the factory one easy enough. Doesn't seem to be an option now.

That's probably just noise. You won't be taking pictures like that anyways.

I always put one on everything I buy. Keeps original good.

If anyone out there is still waiting on their preorder from B&H, mine just went to "In stock, order sent to warehouse". We'll see if I get a tracking number tonight or not, but it seems like progress.

Your right, I just saw your post and it was something to try since I had it in my hands I'm coming from a 40D, so the improvements are major. I was messing around taking hand held shots with my 70-200 2.8 MII, low light in my apartment at ISO 16,000 of scotch bottle labels, I could read them perfectly on the LCD... I love this frickin' camera!

Placed original order with B&H at 3/2, noon PST. Last time I called customer service I was told I won't be in the next batch that they expect, so I could be looking at mid/end of April.

Called Norman Camera last Friday and got on a waiting list. They called me back yesterday and now my 5D MK III body is on its way. Great customer service, nice to do business with them.

WOW, you've been patient.. I'd have been climbing the walls!
I pre ordered around 16th in the UK and got it 23rd... even that drove me insane.
At least you're on the way now, and its worth the wait.

B&H just reimbursed me finally

In some sick way, I sorta missed this thread even though I got my camera last week.

Just wanted to say be patient, because in the end, the camera is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO worth it.

Anyone heard word from Crutchfield? I ordered from them yesterday. Customer service keeps calling me, making sure all my info is correct.. I had to do like 4 different verifications and such...
