The Photographer's Eye, Chapter 2, Design Basics

Welcome back to the book club study group.

Just wanted to let you know I'm subscribed. My hubby goes back to work tomorrow and spring break is over, so I have time to concentrate on things I want to do again! HA!

Will be working on the topics covered tomorrow.

It's quiet in here this week! I am going through my pics to see if I can match any up to these concepts. I am really enjoying the book though am humbled at how little I know.

Here is a shot I did a couple weeks ago in Whistler. I took several shots of the Olympic rings while I was there but this was by far my favorite even though I clipped the top of one of the rings. Now that I go back and look at it I think it is because they pop because of the contrast of being shot at night with a flash. The snow adds a sense of place to them as well.

Haha, I think Spring Break hit all of us at once. We'll be out of town until next weekend, probably with no internet access.

So, unless someone has a better idea, I'm going to extend Chapter 2 for a bit.

Let me know if there's anyone anxious to get on to Chapter 3. You don't have to wait for the rest of us.

stsva I love that second shot. The way the bridge pilings hold up the top of the frame is great and the acute light angle adds really nice contrast.

Thanks! I don't have too many shots that display basic design elements as well as this one.

It also has the receding color (green) as a foreground to the red color, which is really neat!

You also use four pillars to create an implied triangle. Our brains look for order in things, which is part of what I took away from the "gestalt" part of the discussion. Very nice image and satisfying to look at. Also like the moodiness of it.

We're moving back into a single thread, here so that everyone stays subscribed as we go from chapter to chapter.
