here's a test shot guyz. Looks like the hairlight is only in one side. I'm thinking of buying the same cheapo umbrella with stand and another yongnou 560 flash and another transceiver.

so it's gonna be two at the back at 45degrees pointing towards the model and 1 in front as keylight.

here's my test.

Vinz:

FWIW, I much prefer the second pic, as his skin tone is more natural looking to me

I'm a bit of an idiot, but what exactly is the difference between the two set ups?

And not to derail your discussion too much, but how do you like the YN560? I have one on order to use as my third flash (the others are a 430exII and a SB-24 - dumbo here didn't pay attention to where it was shipping from - so it's been in the mail for a good three weeks crossing the pacific.) I'm mainly curious how you like using it as compared to the Canon unit, and I'm well aware it's manual only.

you're thinking too much vin

stick to one light source with a reflector and learn from there - adding more lights just adds more variables

and i wouldn't use the YN560 as a key light outside during the day - maybe for fill? what kind of shots are these bodybuilders wanting?

Most guys here recommended to set the flash manually in studio/off camera lighting so Y560 should be ok. In the above shot, I also set my canon430exII in manual mode.

I have no complain with my Y560, it works good.

thanks.

that's what i thought too, use my reflector instead of buying a third light.

there might be indoor and outdoor shots so it depends.

here's another one with little PP.

I love the one of the guys with the bikes Beep. It would be great hung on a wall near stairs!

Thanks, I actually screwed the exposure up and blew the sky out completely so thought I'd push it even further to try and "save" it

Been awhile since I hit the 60D thread, some great stuff! Not too much shooting lately as winter in Alaska sucks but; gives me time to play with lighting.

Alright seriously brothers i need your help. I know most of you have your own break in photography and I know it's gonna be a nerve breaking at first.

I'm going to have a photoshoot on some bodybuilders with some females(as spices) this coming monday. My first break ever. What I have are the lenses I have in my sig, 2 umbrellas with the 430EX II,yongnou 560, yongnou transceivers and a reflector/diffuser.

Location: Industrial(asphault factory).
Time: 10am to 2pm.

Any advice please. What in my line of lens is the best for the shoot? What preparation must I do? What should be my attitude?

your thoughts please.

Set up your flashes and ideally get someone to play model so you can figure out how to get the setup right.

I would use your Sigma 17-50 for pretty much the entire shoot assuming you have a sharp copy.

And another semi-willing subject, the wife. My Family must get tired of me sticking a camera in their face. Plenty of PP, just playing around with stuff.

Those who shoot portraits should take the time to see this:

It works wonders!
