Finally got to test it out. Shot with my Sigma 85 1.4:

A few things I noticed. The AF system has vastly been improved in my opinion. There would be times I would shoot around f2, with an ND filter with sun backlighting and would have issues focusing on the mkII. The mkIII hit focus spot on every time. The outer focus points worked just as well!

Friend of mine shooting with me had issues catching focus even on his 7D. This was probably one of my biggest issues with the mkII other then focusing in low light. IQ appears to be about the same to me but I guess we will see once the mkIII RAWs are supported. Just my thoughts. Comments are welcome!

That would explain it.

Funnily enough the centre points are astoundly good. I mean it. My old 5DII technique of focus and recompose using one shot, centre point is working like a dream. But the other points work really well and far better than the centre point of my mkII....but those centre points on the mkIII are in a different league. I'm also loving the fact that I not have a 5D series camera which has loads of AF points and AI Servo is a working solution! It's brilliant!

Well, it's not a duck but it will have to do for now. I saw this dove on my patio fence so I grabbed my camera that already had my 300 f2.8 + 2xIII extender mounted on it. The dove was in full shade and the afternoon sun reflecting off the house across the street made it heavily backlit so I used spot exposure...only problem there was I forgot to bump up the iso so the shutter speed was only 1/80th. The head has a little motion blur

I find it weird that so many people talking wonders about the AF are posting soft pictures. No criticism to them in particular, but either you're not using a good downsizing algorithm or maybe you're misfocusing?

Good turnaround time to have this available a week after the 5d iii launch. But, perhaps it was rushed. I'm never happy. :p

It WAS rushed... They were suppose to improve performance but IMHO it's even slower than 4.0...
It is only a RC though...

Speaking of folks who spouted a lot of stuff in the pre-5D3 threads, what happened to our old friend Shadowblade, constantly (and I mean constantly) going on about how lame this camera was going to be, especially in comparison with the D800? Strange how he doesn't have much to say now :)
