Tried my first startrail last night in Pennsylvania. It turned more into a learning experience than anything else.

Biggest mistake of the night, do not discount the moon. No matter how small it is. The moon was about 90 degrees to the photos left side. It provided enough light to make it look like daylight when the shutter was held open for 30 minutes. Startrails are visible but I need to try again when the moon is not in the sky.

f4 iso 200 @ 17mm for 30 minutes.

While out I saw 3 satellites and 2 shooting stars in about 15 minutes.

Amazing composition.

I think to get decent trails is to stack your images. Any light pollution what so ever will blow out your trails. Next time take say... 100 x 20 sec exposures 10 secs apart., which will give you the equivalent of 50mins of trails. :)

I would also be careful when framing. It looks like to got a couple of power/telephone lines in the upper left corner. Nice first capture.

Nice try when it is a new moon and use a flash light to paint the building. Looking forward to seeing your results.

It's a nice image. It may not be the best star trail image, however it is a nice moonscape, and the trails are clearly visible, just not very prominent.
