I'd rather take my chances by buying a Sigma 30mm for the eBay bid.
No way will Canon try to repair that.

I agree this was run over by the bus you don't do that much damage with a short fall. Heck if I threw it off my roof in the lowe pro bag it wouldn't look like this.

I've seen a Canon lens in similar shape at the local rental shop (BorrowLens). Canon refused to repair it. I was told that Canon refuses to repair a lot of impact damage that looks this bad. The damage is from obvious abuse and looks like it'll take more effort than it is worth and still not end up with a perfectly working lens. Canon tech support offers a six month warranty on their repair work. Good as new.... maybe a little insurance fraud, but whats life with out a little risk. I would ask the buyer for a lot more images, the focus ring and front elements. I broke my 24-70mm not that bad but canon essentially replaced everything that needs to be replaced here. It cost me me, well my insurance, $440 to fix, it hasn't worked this well in like 3 years. So that means your into this lens for $900ish.

Again, nobody who bids on this plans to send it in for repairs. Those are either tinkerers or they are professional repair shops who can flip the lens after repairing. $680 My imagine composition sucks. I need a heavier lens.

Yeah, despite all comments in this thread, I bet the ones who were bidding to this lens knew what they were exactly doing.

Not true (always). I have seen bidders going crazy for lenses like 50mm f1.8 II and bidding more than it costs brand new. I know more about gear than I know about photography

But that type of guys will run away even if you mention that there is a single dust speck in the lens, let alone a completely destroyed lens.

UV filters are used for protection, neutral density filters to limit light. For sure. Some camera shop that might have broken glass but good inside parts could get a perfectly working lens out of it.
