Wow, it is actually the teeniest bit bigger than the 24-70 L II.... But fortunately both are much smaller than the older 24-70 L.

Well, my prediction of the price was off by $100. This lens better be as good as the 24-70 I or I don't think they will sell many.

I don't have time to analyze the MTF charts right now but I'll have a look at them when I return home this afternoon.

Been holding out for a 24-70 variant and this looks pretty good. I have a very basic understanding of mtf, but looks like to me a little better than mk I and a little worse than mk II in the periphery. They sure did price this very very competitively, especially with the VC. If real world pics pan out, looks like I will be getting my first Tamron lens

Placed my pre-order.

It was between this, the new Canon 24-70, or sticking with the Tamron 28-75. I figure if this lens is as close to the 24-70 L II as the 28-75 is to the old 24-70 L then I would be very happy to pay $1000 less for the Tamron. Plus I think the combination of 24mm + IS + 5d3 is going to make for some fantastic evening/night landscape/architecture​/cityscape photography capabilities for when I don't want to carry around a tripod (anytime I am not doing pre-planned shooting of this nature)....

A typical street shot at night at f/8 calls for about a 1 second shutter at ISO 6400. The 5d3 will let me shoot at ISO 25600 and 1/4 second shutter. If I can get 3 stops of IS from the lens that puts me at about 1/3 second shutter needed at 24mm, so I should be able to get a nice shot hand-held. I could even step down to ISO 12800 1/2 second shutter if I had something to brace against. Really looking forward to the IS because of this.

Given that this lens and the Canon 24-70 L II are both coming out this month I would just return that lens anyway. In 4 weeks, once we all know more about both these two new 24-70's, you will either want this Tamron new or there will be a glut of used 24-70 L's on the market as people trade up to the II and you can grab a used one in excellent condition for considerably less than $1329.

Also, anyone else think the reason the Canon mount version of this lens is coming out now while the Nikon and Sony's are coming later is to try and complete with the new 24-70 L II?
