Yeah, price is up there but there's a lot, big margin lots of more glass in the new 24-70. 82mm filter size and made to fit FF.

I'm not surprised by the price at all. Remember, Canon's price on their new 24-70 without stabilization is $2300 so for $1000 less you get the same focal range plus the VC. Only question is the IQ in the real world.

If someone can give me instructions on how to test this lens vs the mark 1, I wouldnt mind doing it :)

I consider my copy of the mark 1 sufficiently sharp, and AF is on the money.

Some like to play with focus charts, I prefer to use actual test subjects. I usually have a cat handy. ;) Just find something to shoot wide open and go for it. By the way, on the darkside, this comes in about $600 less than the Nikon 24-70 that like Canon also lacks stabilization.

I think the price is quite reasonable for this lens.

This is the only FF Standard 2.8 Zoom on the market with IS, so if it came out at say $800, That would tell me optically its not as strong as its non-IS counterparts...

The only thing that kinda hurts is all my filters are 77mm :(
Buying 82mm ND, Polarizing & UV kinda sucks

Yea, but the new Canon is the same size, so eventually you will most likely buy them anyway.

Same here. Just imagine, if you will, if Canon made the 17-55 IS in a FF model(i know, it's wider.. but shorter and with crappy build compared to the Brick and- i would wager- this Tamron)? Ummm... ouch, that would be big Denaro's too.

Yeah, especially if you like the good multicoated filters. I do have a good 82mm UV filter but no ND or CPLs and I use both.

I don't know, judging from the weight of this lens and some of the pictures I've seen in the last few days it appears to be a new high for Tamron when it comes to build quality.

When it comes to third party build quality no one touches Tokina. With their two new FF wide zooms I wonder if they're going to try to enter this market as well. Would be good for competition.

aahh... didn't notice the actual size of the lens... looks like a hefty one. Hmmm... now it's got me thinkin.... I was going to pick up a Canon 24-70/2.8 .. I'll wait to see how this one turns out. I've had great luck with three Tamron lenses now and loved each one - this might be a good f/2.8 compromise for shooting concerts on the 5D2. Though I'd love the 16-35/2.8 if it weren't for it's price.

I don't believe the catalog of this lens has been posted yet. There's one 2.8 shot of a necklace:

Thanks, I've only seen the same catalog posted in non-English languages with the same pictures.

So I got tired of waiting for this lens and ordered a Canon 24-70 2.8. Got it while the rebates were going so I paid a little less than it is going for now...but now that the release of this lens is imminent, do I send the Canon glass back while I'm still within the 30 day return window? The Canon 24-70 2.8 II will be out of my price range and I do wedding videos as well so the stabilization feature will be welcome but I do like the Canon lens. Dunno what to do.

The top right picture on page 3 have perfectly round bokeh balls with an aperture of f/5.6. Interesting...
