Great job, are you putting the top back on the battery pack, or are you leaving it like that?
It would be nice to hear how many shots you get from it.

Battery Modification Try #2. SUCCESS!!!

Try 1 was a fail because of a sloppy job resulting in a short somewhere between batteries upon completion, and putting them all together.
Powers camera, charges, and takes forever to drain!

Thanks guys! The Lenmar battery was more or less dying, so I figured to might as well do it.

Looks totally slick.
How many battery you used?
Do you have a Youtube recipe?

I used the same amount as the original packs. 10 AA batteries.
Here's a thread of another guy doing the same thing. I saw his mod, so I wanted to do mine too, and make the first ever LSD Eneloop NP-E3!

No video, just wire the batteries the exact same way the original ones that come out of the pack. Make sure you do it carefully, and isolate each terminal from everything else so it doesn't short in random places.
Total time was 3 hrs, the 1st try was 5hrs, because my friend and I know what we're doing now. LOL

I bought the camera 3rd hand. The previous owner bought it from a professional photographer. The camera came with the Lenmar battery. I only got around 100 shots with LCD review before the battery showed low and died.
Reviews online say the Lenmar battery is very good though.
The battery pack says 1800mah, however the AA batteries inside said 1700mah on each cell.

I haven't decided yet. It's really hard to put the top back on because it was sealed very fragile. There are almost no plastic to super glue the top back on.
Also, the first time I tried there was a short somewhere, so this time I isolated every connection with a lot of tape.
I may just leave it like this, probably cover the exposed batteries with wide clear tape, and use it as is.

I haven't tested the battery yet, but it seems to take forever to drain at the moment. The batteries were charged in a MAHA C-9000 charger @ 200mah, the lowest rate available, so max capacity was achieved for each cell. I had to run a charge/discharge cycle on the NC-E2 just to see if it would work properly.

I wish the NC-E2 charged at a much slower rate than 850mah, because a slower rate will give the batteries a much fuller charge, and increase the life cycles of the batteries.

I don't know how the 850mah charge rate will affect the overall charge capacity. I hope it gets me as much as a 200mah charge will get me!

I finally got pushed over the edge by the new Nikon repair policies, and am officially a dual system user now. I've added a Canon DSLR and a lens, and that SLR is a 1D. Just ordered it today.

I got viewing the TIF files in the windows live photo viewer working, however thumbnails are still not working in windows explorer in Windows 7.

I have Canon's latest RAW codec installed, and the latest windows live photo viewer installed which allows me to view the TIFF files in it.

However, I get no thumbnails. I rely on the thumbnails to do a quick overview of all the photos and do a mini preview in windows live photo viewer.

Any ideas?!?!

Kay, I've never managed to get the 1D RAWs to display as thumbnails, even when I used Infranview as the replacement to the crap windows photo viewer. You're right about it being irritating, but I never tried that hard to figure it out.

Now I just have Lightroom import them into an unprocessed folder and then output batch jpegs with them, so I have an easy way to see what's in each folder.

Thanks a lot for your reply bro. It makes me feel easier knowing that I'm not the only one here. I'm just hoping perhaps someone out there has found a magical fix for this!

I even started a new thread on this, but got no replies. :(

Sadly, you'll get most of your responses right here. Not a lot of people know much about or care much about the old 4MP warhorses.

There was a 1D2 on the board for 425 this morning. That's less than I paid for my armageddon-tested classic. These things have a cult following, but that keeps us out of the mainstream, it seems.

I usually batch all my images to JPEG before I review them in anything larger than a Lightroom thumbnail - using default settings. Then I'll go over the JPEGs and make new exports from the RAW if I need to change exposure or sharpening or noise settings. The 1D files are tiny, but if you wanted, you could bulk export them from LR or DPP at the lowest quality setting. That would still give you a perfectly usable thumbnail image that you could see in Windows Exploder.
