yes it was the center spot

i will try
just testing the lens
it has no IS and my big problem my hands always shaking

Yes, they are all with the 70-300L.

I am very surprised that you sold yours. I presume you got the 400/5.6 in its place? It is a great prime though.

I haven't tested this, but I don't believe that is true. It's common practice, and I hear it a lot, but your focus is for anything in the focal plane. If you pre-focus center spot, then rotate to one side for 1/3s rule, you are swinging the focal plane. If you are going wide angle, then your focal plane will rotate further than telephoto, so the subject will end up further in front of it. With a shallow DoF, this should be even more of an issue.
