My 2nd contribution to the forum: A honey bee cleaning its antenna. I still haven't quite figured out how to tame the 430ex II. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. ;)

Good capture.
Re the 430Ex - not quite sure what you mean but you need good diffusion from a softbox. I nearly always shoot in ETTL mode but even then you do need to learn to adjust FEC according to the overall brightness of the pic.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! Much appreciated! :D

Re: Brian.. I’ve been shooting almost exclusively ETTL (-1FEC) with a sto-fen omni-bounce diffuser. I stuffed some tissue in the cap - too much, too little - can’t really find the right combo. The light is still really harsh. Is there a particular soft box you recommend?

Think you would find a Lumiquest type softbox better than a stofen.
The comment re FEC is that you need to find the mid point where a
mid green leaf gives the correct exposure and then if you shoot a brighter background you need to add +ve FEC from that or a darker or no close background add -ve FEC from that.
