Hey guys, recently I have been thinking about selling my 24-70 in favor of 3 primes: 28 f/1.8, 50 f/1.4 and 85 f/1.8. These would be complementing my 70-200 f/4 L IS ( which I might replace with a 135 F2....

I have a need. A need for speed.

Am I crazy?

If primes work for you use them, I love them more than those zooms.

Personally I owe 24-70L and 28/1.8,
if you want to take portraits with more background,
28/1.8 is not a bad choice, the only thing I don't like much is the CA,
at the wide open aparture f/1.8,you can see CA on some the edges,
usually I will put it on f/2.2or above to have a shaper image

I didn't choose 50/1.4 because the micro USM is well known motor failure,
85/1.8 might be a nice choice for you, depends on what kind of effect you want

Recently I got 24-70L because I still need a standard zoom to fulfill my needs,
24-70L is a great lens so far:)

28 1.8 is soft, and not wide enough, so that's a huge hit right there. Might as well go for the 24 2.8.

50 1.4 has the FOV of 85mm, so your first two primes give you a kind of limiting range. Crop users should always consider 17-xx lenses over primes.....

consider a 17-50 as a 17mm F2.8, 24mm F2.8, and 50mm F2.8
IMO, if you could get those three primes, it would be more flexible than your list. 85mm on a crop has a very narrow FOV, and it's pretty specialized.

I wouldn't do it. The 28 is mediocre at best and soft @ f1.8. 50 1.4 is again soft and doesn't sharpen up until > f2.0. 85 1.8 is cheap enough to supplement your 24-70.
