Thanks, they are from grandstand 18, which you need tickets to get into. If you hang out in front of that grandstand you can shoot through the fence and get similar shots, have fun!

Cool! Thank you. I planned on getting the photo pass but the tower POV is quite my thing. I prefer shooting from the ground. I tried purchasing ticket to the GS18 but not available? Bummer...

Thanks, fist time using the 100-400 on race cars, like the drivers I was quickly maneuvering through the learning curve. The more I use it the more I enjoy it.

Very nice !

Long Beach is not an easy place to get really good photos, I have to say - without credentials anyway.

The race management people seem to go out of their way to make it difficult for amateur shooters, if not by closing photo-holes in the fencing that used to be there (turn 1, for example), then by putting banners wherever a decent shot might be available.

That is for sure. This year was especially bad they had banners in every spot that had potential. $265 for a photo pass was just too much for my blood.

Maybe it's my trained eye, but these shots aren't very good. There's no sense of motion, several of them are soft (2 / 3 / 5 all look soft), and there's no environmental elements incorporated into these shots. They look like race cars parked on a track (especially in the shots with parking lines).

Sense of motion is a bit challenging when a car is coming directly at you, your trained eye must have missed the raised wheel on the porsce in photo #1.

How is this?

Nice inspite of the chicken wires.

I agree. You have to be there to appreciate how bad the conditions were for a photographer with no access.

I know it.. I understand the double-fencing, it's about safety and liability. And I suppose that at certain spots where they don't want people to stand because maybe the chance of flying debris is greater, okay. But there are lots of locations on wide bridges (not the narrow temporary walkways) - where it seems to be about limiting the view of the track unless you've paid for the priviledge of not having an obstructed view.
