I guess five bucks is better than nothing, but come on. Memory is supposed to be a depreciating asset. Prices haven't moved on CF for a while.

Tempted to buy a 16 gig because I really need to upgrade from my Ultra and Ultra II (yikes).

True, prices have been pretty stagnant, but they'll eventually move. If you really don't need it, I'd wait. Eventually, a rebate or sale will come along and you'll be able to get the 16GB Extreme for $45 or so.

Would be a better deal if instead of cards being a dollar or two off the cards were actually a few dollars. Someone needs to start pounding Sandisk and Lexar to offer some real discounts pretty soon. I have to buy a CF for this device then an SD for this other and a MicroSD for yet another and then a Duo for another and it ends up costing me a ridonkulous amount of money just to use my devices.

I think you're right. Going to wait. After much research, I think for most people, anything over 20mbs or 133x etc. is probably over kill.

I went through my stash of cards just now, most purchased in the 2008-2010 timeframe and I've got some middle of the road cards according to the Rob Galbraith tests. For instance, I've got a couple Kingston 266x 8 gigs which will probably do me just fine. And I've got a handful of Sandisk Extreme III (not the 30mbs though), that are probably just fine for stills, maybe even video. The Ultra IIs will probably be regulated to last resort status and probably stills only.

I did come across some chatter about how you should be using UDMA cards to avoid the further compression of HD video. But not sure if that's confirmed or just "pixel" peeping madness.

In any case, I think I'm just going to wait for the Extremes to come down another 30% or so. If that doesn't happen, probably go with the new Ultras which are at 30 mbs, about half the price of the new extremes, and better than the old Extremes I have.
