What % of your expected 2012 weddings have you already booked?

A bit late to the thread, but we've booked more than 100% for the year. This is our first year with weddings, and our goal was 5, and we're currently on 6. Long term, we're aiming for 10 to 12 per year.

ok, so what % of your bookings are canceled? At what periods? What's the breakdown, I mean 10% 1 month before wedding, 5% 1 week, 25% 3 months, etc. Any cancellations just days before wedding, or how about on same day? Ever had a bride or groom just not show up?

Only ever had one cancel in 5 years (80 odd weddings). She rearranged the wedding to a much earlier date and as a result could no longer afford my services.

Back on the subject of % of bookings taken, moving past 2012 (which I booked out for by the first week in March) I now have 13 for 2013 with probably another 4 in the next two weeks which will take me to about half booked for 2013. On track to book out for 2013 by October/November this year all going well.

3 cancels in 5 years
1 was a re-schedule for a sick/dying relative that wouldn't have been around for the original date and their new date was already booked
1 the couple saved a lot of money by separating before they say I do
and another was upset that I wasn't available on her 4th engagement shoot re-schedule and decided that I wasn't a good fit for them

all of these were months and months ahead of the wedding date...

no, didn't do a single engagement shoot.
but it was re-scheduled 4 times, each time at her request (not feeling well, something else came up, weather, etc.. mostly all requested almost at the last minute) and her 4th request didn't fit with my schedule and I wouldn't let her book me for that session. That made her upset.

Figured I would resurrect this thread to see how booking for 2013 are going.

We have 8 booked so far, 6 in spring, 1 in summer and 1 in fall of 2013. Shooting for 20 for the year.

A related question, do you feel like it is easier to book weddings as a potential clients date gets closer? I would think that as it gets closer to their date more photographers will be booked so if you aren't it would be easier to book that wedding. Has anyone actually had experiences and noticed this to be the case?

I guess I'll play. My quota is VERY low compared to you guys!
I only WANT TO shoot 5 weddings as a primary, per year. So I'm just about there. 4 down. 1 to go. The rest of the time, I am perfectly content second shooting since I get paid handsomely for doing so!

if your quota is 5, and you have 4 booked, then you're already 80% booked, which I suspect is way ahead of most of us!

I'm about 45% filled for 2013, but also have 7 meetings with potential couples over the next 5 days

The NZ wedding season is usually October - April (Sping-Summer in the Southern Hemisphere).

In the past few weeks there have been a flurry of enquiries for < 6months-to-wedding January/Febraury dates but these have been booked at least a year in advance.

When this thread started last year I was hoping for 15ish weddings in 2012. So far I've shot a little over half of the 21 I ended up booking. Currently have 4 on the books for 2013 and a couple pending more.
