IMO....No!

=] not for what we use it for, now if you need something with a faster focus then this lens is not the one to go with...but for outdoor portraits It is my favorite.

So far I've had no issues with its focus. Once it initially locks focus to a subject (action), it has no problem at all. Makes for a portrait lens and a sports lens :D might not be as fast as a telephoto, but its fast enough to keep up with moving horses, its fine with me :)
