Why would Adorama be out of the 5D3 body but have the body + 24-105 kit available? Sorry for the dumb question but Im wondering if they really do actually have the kits in stock if the bodies alone arent available.

The kits come pre-boxed as a kit. I just received my kit from Adorama. When I ordered the bodies were out of stock. I don't think they can break apart the kit.

If you can float the extra cash, you should be able to sell the 24-105 for at least the difference in cost, if not maybe a hair more. You get a bit of a deal when you buy the kit.

Because most folks buying into a camera in that price range already have good lenses.

Thanks guys. I actually want the 24-105. Glad to hear in stock kits is possible with out of stock bodies.

I actually got my 24-105 off someone buying the kit when the 5D Mark II came out. $700ish sure beats $1100ish.

As others have said, while there are some well heeled newbies buying these cameras a lot of the 5D Mark III buyers probably have a lot of the lenses they need.

Same here (Belgium).
For some (dumb financial) reason the priority goes to the kits.
The bodys have to wait at the end of the line
Gladly it's a thing worth waiting for :)

Greetings

More people want body only because a) they don't want the 24-105mm or b) they already have it. Canon probably makes a chunk on the lens even for the "discounted kit price" so they will want to sell kits more than body only. The 24-105mm has been in production since 2005 so its costs are going to be low as opposed to the 5D3 whose production costs are going to be high as they are new. Think of it as an upsell.

Local stores in big cities might be your best bet right now.

They can and they do all the time. The body doesn't come in the same box as the lens. The body is in its own box and the lens is in a separate plain box.

I bought the kit and sold the lens. no preorder, no back order, just at the door the next day, sold the lens locally for 950 and came out 150 bucks ahead.
