Someone has a signature that reads, "One need not have the very best at any level of experience but it sure does not hurt one's chances of better image quality". I do not have time to wish and hope for the best. Hopefully I have a few years to improve. I'm 76 and handicapped while shooting from a mobility scooter. I think I can improve a good bit from my present position on the learning scale.

is the 7d better than a 40D? for the price
I have a 40 D

QUOTED IMAGE

The 7D blows the 40D out of the water. I upgraded from the 40D to the 7D and was blown away, image quality, AF, FPS and more. Its a huge step up. That being said, I traded my 7D for a 1DIII and have never looked back (except when I occasionally want to shoot video or wish I had a few more megapixels to work with, but I'll get that whenever I get a MkIV)

The nice thing is the 7D and the MkIII are both going down in price with new body releases by Canon

I think the realization of the equipment (300 f2.8 above), that would be really nice to have has scared him off?

Here is a link to the game I shot Saturday using the MK III and 300 f/2.8 pictured above. I added the 1.4xTC on some of them for extra reach.

Not fair while using different image and location. This is Rebel STi + 70 x 200 F 2/8L IS Mark II. I elected to go to the 7D based on research largely done here. I am very pleased with the upgrade. This pix is made with the Rebel.

thats better than my 40D

Add to this discussion the fact that I am very much on the first third of the professional quality learning curve. That's my opinion.
