I went for a hike today in Castlewood Canyon. Up on the rimrock I came up on a nice little Diamondback Rattlesnake.

He was nice enough to pose for the camera.

Yeah, a Tair 3 300mm F4.5 Preset lens. I was at the minimum focus distance (around 10 feet or so). He was just a little guy, so I wasn't too worried.

Nice shots. It's the little ones you need to watch out for. My comfort range would have been much further than 10 feet.

Beautiful! I have a snake hook that is a long one and plan to look for some rattlers this summer. They are beautiful animals. Always love to see nice photos of them :)

Thanks everyone!

I know you have to watch the little ones more than the big ones as they will inject all their venom in one bite since they don't know how to gauge how much venom to use yet, like the larger rattlers have.

I wasn't getting too close for the situation and stayed around until other hikers came by to warn them.
