All were taken with the Sigma 1.4x EX TC.

Hi,

Anyone using one of these on a 5D3 yet?

I ask as I heard rumours some sigma lenses needing to be re-chipped on newer Canon bodies.

Well I struggled between getting this or the OS version and despite claims that the OS is better the images on this thread looked better to me, so I took the plunge on this one instead - here's hoping it works with the 5D3 as no one seems to know!

I've just purchased one of these from a popular auction site :p

I'm using it on a 50d, and haven't decided if it suffers from front/back focusing or not yet... I'm going to test it properly tonight hopefully and post some images :)

If it does its not too bad to get Sigma to calibrate it - £38 (plus postage to them) - takes 2-3 weeks but they did wonders for my 50-500 OS, which is why they have my new 70-200 now.

Okay so I did a quick test with a tape measure that was about 3m away, and at a 45 degree angle to the front element... I made sure the lens was set to minimum focus before I pressed the shutter. I was using a tripod with a 2 second shutter delay. Focus is centre point on the 100cm measure.

Camera: 50d
Lens: Sigma 70-200 f2.8 ii
Aperture: 2.8
Shutter: 1/40

Here's a couple of more 'real-world' shots taken wide-open on the street:

Camera: 50d
Lens: Sigma 70-200 f2.8 ii
Aperture: 2.8
Shutter: 1/640
Focal Length: 200mm

If the general consensus I get is that they're soft, then yes... obviously i've never had this lens before so I don't know what i should be expecting. It is sharper when stopped down, but I will be using 2.8 :)

If anyone else has an opinion, please let me know :)

Hi, thanks for that... I've just done it and discovered that my 50mm was front back focusing a lot, my 17-55 was front focusing a tiny amount, but the sigma was about right

Put it this way, at no point did the images suddenly become pin sharp by just moving the focus ring the tiniest amount... the whole image was just generally soft. Is this something sending it off to Sigma is likely to improve, or is it just how this lens performs wide open?

Cheers, Chris
