- scn -> B/W jpg, f 2.0, 1/20 sec, used a tripod but forgot to cancel the image stabilization. Got lucky on this one despite the narrow depth of field. Many more of my images were disappointing b/c the depth of field was so narrow.

- aperture priority, RAW, f 5.6, 1 sec, also with tripod and image stabilization left on. Not easy to tell on these internet previews, but the greater clarity with the narrower depth of field is obvious when you see the high resolution image.

Just got back from a day playing with my new cheapo Opteka infrared filter (Amazon is your friend) attached with a Lensmate adapter and here's what I learned: Shooting infrared is relatively easy - you can leave the filter on and still see what you're doing. If you shoot in scn->B/W, the S95 does the processing and saves the images as jpgs. (I didn't realize that I wasn't saving the images as RAW until I was done shooting for the day.) In addition, the camera is essentially on "auto" and will choose the settings it thinks best; with the infrared filter in place, that means a very wide-open aperture so as to increase the shutter speed. OTOH, if you shoot "in color" in and non-scn mode and convert to B&W later, you are much more likely to get a good image, especially if you want greater depth of field, but the previews on the camera are much harder to see and there is a very prominent hexagonal lens artifact dead smack in the middle of the image even if you are not shooting into the sun (it was present on images I shot in the shade). I left it in for demo purposes - it wouldn't be hard to get rid of in Photoshop.
