To anyone that has this and the 70-200 IS II, I'm thinking of selling this for the 70-200 IS II. I would re-save up for this lens if I did that, but I want to know if it would be worth it? I love this lens to death, but I am going to need the 70-200 for next fall for sports and I figured I might as well just get it now. Any thoughts?

I do have both and I use each for seperate occaisions...the tele for sports mainly, yes, and also if I just wanted to use one lens for a day of mix portraits and sports. If it were me, I would keep the 85 and rent the tele for the events I needed it for, saving up all the while for it in the end...the 85 is just too great to pass up, and it would break my heart to sell that beautiful piece of glass

True, I really don't wanna sell this lens!! I am selling my 5D2 so I can get the 5Dc and 24-70L combo, but I will try and wait to see if I want to sell my 85 by then. The only thing is I want the zoom as it covers a bigger range, but I don't want to sell the 85 cause I never really ever use an aperture smaller than 2.0. It's easy to say you won't sell the 85 though when you have the 70-200 as well ;)! For me renting is out of the option as I don't want to waste even more money I can never recover by renting the 70-200 as I would need it for a good 3 months for fall sports and I will probably also use it for indoor sports as well.

+1 I would never sell the 70-200 f/4L IS. It is by far the sharpest lens in my collection, sharper than any of my primes. When you look through the viewfinder, it almost seems like the glass is not even there because it's so clear.

I rented the 85 1.2 yesterday and going to play with it today to see if it is something I want to buy.

 :p true.... I can honestly say though the 85L is spending a lot more time on my camera than the other two right now..maybe its just because I'm still in the honeymoon stage with it, haha!

Your daughter is like Canon's poster child for the 85L. They should put her on the payroll, haha. Your photos are excellent too, btw!

:D hehe thank you.

I'm with you on the f/4L IS. Man that thing is ridiculously sharp...I always reduce my sharpening workflow on images shot on that lens.

I guess I also just want to echo the general sentiment in this thread that the 85L is truly an amazing lens. Time and time again I find that my favorite images are shot with the Keg.

Is the 70-200 f/2. 8 L IS II equivalent in sharpness at f/4 as the 70-200 f/4? Or better?

i have both as well and i don't think i'll ever sell either of them.

i find each has it's own purpose and the aperture is different enough to warrant keeping each one.

the 85L is amazing in how sharp it is at 1.2, and the bokeh is beautiful on this lens.

the 70-200 II is just a general kick-ass lens that does everything well for that range :)

i believe that the 70-200 II is a hair sharper than the F4 IS, which is sharper than the F4, which is sharper than the F2.8 IS.

don't quote me on that though and this is just internet rehash. ;)

I would say pretty much equivalent IMHO.

You have the 70-200 II + 55-250? Interesting :).....
