Hi everyone -

Last weekend I found a contest called "Capture Minnesota", a fun Minnesota themed photo contest with challenges, voting, image of the day etc. put on by Twin Cities Public Television. A combination of editor selected and crowd favorite images will be chosen to make a book containing the best images of Minnesota its photographers have to offer. Prizes go to the best images and the cover picture, along with gift cards for winning weekly challenges.

The cynic in me wants to complain about the organization using the contest as a ploy to get free images for their book, but the reality is that its just a fun contest put together by a local public television outfit.

Check it out at the link below - notice I've shamelessly linked you directly to my images for voting! I've received about 1200 votes for my 14 images in the last week or so, kind of addicting to say the least! :)

The contest runs through February with the book becoming available sometime in April I think.

I added a few, thanks for the link. I looked at hundreds of images on there, I think I need a valium! People just don't know how to operate a camera. Lots of good compositions completely OOF. After lurking around here for more hours than I'd care to admit, I'd take most any POTN photag's images over what saw on that website. Liked your images posted there, they seem so...familiar!

Yah, there are a lot of amateurs on there - but there's nothing wrong with them trying, provides some unique perspectives and new locations if nothing else. On the other hand, I've also seen some fantastic images from some otherwise unknown talent there.

Thanks for the comments - you've some nice images yourself! I especially liked "Burning Through".

I'm one of those amateurs! :-D After looking at many more images there are certainly some stunning images, quite a few in the cityscapes.

Congrats on getting published! I was very pleasantly surprised last night to receive an email notifying me that one of my photos will be in the book too, so I thought I would see if I could find anyone from POTN who had participated. I really enjoyed everything about the project, from submitting photos, to viewing and voting on photos. I think the TPT people really did a great job with the website and entire project. It was fun, interesting, and wow - there is some tremendous talent here in Minnesota.

Congrats to you too, along with any other POTN members who were published. Im excited to see which of my images made it (keeping fingers crossed for the cover...in my dreams!!!) It was definitely fun and its nice the project is going to continue even after the book is published. I wonder if they are going to make an annual book out of it now? In either case - I agree with you, TPT did a great job.

Cool shot and congrats for being published. I got my copy of the book this weekend and have really enjoyed browsing the pages. There is not a bad photo in the entire book, and many of the images are world class shots.
