After weathering tough economic times the past year and a half ... I'm back! and having a blast. :D

Am using minimal gear right now ... MkIIn and a 50mm f1.8 lens. That's it.

Here's some shots I took the past two weekends.

solid work man, glad you weathered the storm. That first shot is really solid. Love the leading line and rule of thirds. Nice lesson on composition for anyone wondering how its practically applied.

Biff, truth be told, it makes me nervous since we have our first race of the season here tomorrow night and I am definitely not in race form at this point. Maybe I should take out the camera gear instead of the bike????

Whaaaaaat! we have 4 months in already. :p

Funny you live somewhere where the weather never hiders your outdoor activities and forget that some people have seasons.

Look good Biff I'm sure you enjoy being back at it.

Nice shots. Wish you would have a fun and productive season. :) I won't call your gear minimal. The 1dIIn and 40D would do fine. You just need better glass.

I'm quite happy with this one ... just need MORE glass. 50mm fixed prime is a definite handicap.

I have a Sigma 50 and never used it to shoot races. I just find the perspective too normal (boring) for cycling. :) Zooms are much better when you really don't know if the riders are too far or too close to you. 24-70L and 70-200L f2.8 IS markII have served me well.

Look good for a 50mm lens. I might have to try that on the next race I go to.

Not to completely thread-jack Biff here but since it seems that we have some avid cyclists, I figured Id fill you in on tonights race...I went out and took my knocks tonight. 36 mile crit/circuit, 55 degrees, moderate winds but manageable, dry but threatening rain. I sat in the A group peloton and basically hung on for dear life. It was 31-33 in the straights with the usual accelerations out of each turn and by mile 28, I wound up getting spit out the back. Not how one wants to start a season but it was a good wake up call to the miles I need to log still and the difference between my race weight of 150 and the 162 I am currently at. I blame this all on Biff who gave me the race into shape "pep talk" earlier! I'd have been happy taking pictures after that beating!
