Got my 60D today!! :) Shutter count 27 and it looks brand new!
i have a question: that shutter count is according to http://eoscount.com/ (external link) but when i look at battery info, it states that shutter count is 256. what is that all about? does it mean this battery was used on a different camera? and why do we need a shutter count on battery anyway?

q's: Whats different in Canon's refurbished 5D Mark II?
do they replace some parts? actuator ? shutter?...etc...sensor?

Also which one would you prefer? a Used 5D2 or a Refurbished one?

Refurbs are most likely inspected thoroughly. You won't get the og box. Some have reported that the s/n is marked/dotted to note that it is a refurb. Comes with 90 day warranty from Canon/CLP.

Don't worry guys, worldly material such as Camera like 5D2 are in abundance. There are "millions and millions" of these out there. The next In-Stock will be here before you know it. In the meantime buy a cheap azz Canon P&S.

;)

That's kind of odd, unless the shutter was replaced (perhaps) and the battery registers by body serial number which wouldn't change if you changed the shutter out.

The shutter count on the batteries I find to be very helpful. If I think I'm going to shoot under 1000 images, I know that I can probably get by on one battery w/ one in my pocket, but if I think I'm going to be shooting alot, I'll grip my camera with two batteries.

Picked up a 5D MII last night, under 1500 shipped!

Rep told me that these are new cameras sold as refurbs, but they are overstocks, damaged packaging, etc. She said ones that consumers return for repair are recycled not resold.

Question....what if your tradein camera isn't broken?

The consensus is that the returns are not subject to detailed examination (some people have even reported forgetting to send the trade-in back).

You could always take it in the shower with you tomorrow morning to make sure it is clean before you send it back.....:D

I don't think they care. When I traded mine in I told them it still worked. No trouble with the trade in.

It was my understanding that the 'damaged' cameras don't go to Canon, but to a recycling facility.

hmm... some people are getting refurbs with 12,000 shutter count.

if they are just returns, why not offer a longer warranty? there has to be some repaired ones in there.

the 85mm 1.8 lens refurb i got was all messed. stuck aperture blades.
