There's incredible arrogance on your part.
Someone asks "What lens are you using?", and you get upset. How would an education in photography answer that question for someone?
I'm not upset, just wondering

I dont like the back and forth of email. Had a guy, very new to photography, call me to ask a few questions. Ended up being a 30 minute conversation, but I was bored and I didnt mind. Now the guy texts me about once a week with questions. I really dont mind. When I first started there really wasnt a live person (was not a POTN member) to help me. At worst you store up some good karma. At best you make a new friend.

Just look at him and start speaking in another language. Usually stops people from asking you questions. Well unless they happen to speak the language you did. Rob

Yup, these are the prime examples of what I have encountered this year and last, when I was shooting a concert It happens and most commonly it happens when I have the camera on a tripod and I’m just scanning the scene looking for something to tape wwhile hitting the fan, the conversation if the person is a gear head or GWC usually goes like this; Do what you love and you will love what you do, that applies to both work and life.

Uh, it’s a camcorder. Na what I meant is what brand it is? Uh, (I then start looking at the unit, top, bottom, left, and then finally the right side and then on the right side I point out) here it is, it’s a, J. V. C. Does it take nice video? Uh, yea I guess so, it is not as good as an Ikegami but it is much better than those little POS’s like (insert brand of camera the inquisitor is holding) sells. Now at this point if the inquisitor continues the idle chit chat and I have IFB, I will put on my headset and begin an important conversation with the “Control Room,” now since I haven’t pushed the talk button no one other than the inquisitor and I can here what I am saying, it does give the appearance that I have suddenly become too busy to continue chatting. Now if I don’t have IFB I merely put on my Sennheisers and do the same figuring who know the difference anyhow. Now if the person is another professional cameraman the conversation might go like this; Hey dude check out the tush on that one. Wow she’s smoking. Pan tilt full-zoom roll tape. What a rack. Continue rolling double check focus. WOOH Tonto did you catch that? Yea, I guess she was never taught ladies should squat not bend over when out in public. Man oh man, don’t let the wife see that clip or you will get a frying pan up the side of your head. What you’re not rolling? Yea but don’t you remember I got divorced last year. That’s right, free at last eh? And broke too. That sucks. Oh crap the guy is getting ready to begin speaking. Pan tilt zoom-out re-focus and keeper rolling. ![]() Wayne

Unless I'm completely busy, I'm going to help them. You don't gain anything by being a jerk or being antisocial. Photography is a very social profession (in most cases). Just let the person know that you can't talk. No sense in getting angry about it.
