After saving up money and planning to buy a canon 60d, I made the decision I am actually going to by the canon 5d, yes the original 5d. I have never used full frame before and I have no idea where to start with lenses. I mainly shoot portraits and landscape/street. I am planning to buy the Canon 85mm 1.8 for portraits and still not sure what to do for landscapes. I might also buy the Canon 50mm 1.4 but still making my decision. Any help is appreciated

I have a 7D and tried an 85L on it, didn't like it. Put it on a 5D (original) and it found a home. It's amazing on a FF body.

For landscape and street, you can't beat the 35mm f/1.4 L.

Usually can't go wrong with 24-105L and 85mm 1.8. Giving a budget would help though

On FF, 85 1.8 would be better than the 50 for portraits. How much do you want to spend for the landscape? 17-40 is a great start and sharp when stopped down.

There are LOTS of best lenses out there. Unfortunately you did not define what 'best' means to you.

I always, always have my 70-300L with me. If I'm doing something non-specific, I'll also bring the 24-105L. For landscape, any lens will really do. I bought the 14mm specifically for architectural stuff, but I haven't used it as much as I thought I might... I need to go on some small road trips and find places to use it well. If you're doing portraits and street, 24, 35, 50 and 85 are all great focal lengths, and great for fast primes. The 24-70L also covers this range for general use really, really well if you don't mind the weight.

That being said, if you don't have any lenses the 24-105 is pretty hard to beat but the 24-70L is probably the better city street/urban/portrait lens. I don't own the 24-70L, I think it's too heavy and in those focal ranges I'd rather have one fast prime, which I'm currently lacking. lol

24-105L is pretty hard to beat for your 5d for an all around lens. It is easily my most used lens and will give you the equivalent field of view as a 15mm on crop at the wide end. With that said, my next lens will probably be a 135mm f2 L.

Sorry that I didn't specify my price range, totally forgot. I probably want to spend around $1000 dollars or a little more. Still a teen and getting into photography so I don't have a huge budget. I want to probably get two good portrait lenses and then a zoom for landscape and street.

The 50mm f/1.4 is a great lens, and a nifty-fifty should be in everyone's lens collection. That being said, I don't think it's a great landscape lens. I would recommend a wider angle lens. A good one, for the price, is the 17-40mm f/4L.

The 85mm f/1.8 on the 5D is simply magic. There's no other way I can describe it...

for portraits I like 85mm f1.8. Very nice for $300 or so. Next step would be 135L though more for outdoors where you got more distance between subject and camera.
