Nice to see your Japan pics coming out, Phil. Your wife must have been thrilled I wasn't some weird internet stalker. ;)

The subways/trains should run an extra hour but they're set up so the millions of taxis can make some money too. It's a big racket, honestly, but everything here is.

A good photographer can take extraordinary photos anywhere, with any camera and any lens while a mediocre one will take mediocre ones everywhere, with every camera and every lens.
Never limit yourself with what others think you should do. Shoot what you find interesting, exactly the way you want to.

Between the life insurance, travel insurance and death benefits from both my employer AND from my pension plan I wouldn't be surprised if she wasn't hoping I'd not make it home.

Read about the 16 tourists mowed down in Gion district of Kyoto by a speeding vehicle. Something bad ALWAYS goes down within 2 months in any place I travel to. Bali and Casablanca terrorist bombings, 9-11 WYC, earthquakes in San Fran & Indonesia, tsunami in Thailand, floods in Rome, tourist kidnappings or murder in Mali, Peru and Yemen, bus accident in Guatemala and other incidents all happened within 2 months of my having just visited these locations.

A major downside is the subways stopping so soon at night. Wish they ran longer and I had a chance to spend more time shooting with you kiss=o=matic. It was great to have met you.
Loved Tokyo . Keep shooting!!

Yeah, there's a whole dynamic to choosing (strategically) where you live so you can enjoy life after last train via bicycle (like yours truly). And when it's not raining, this is the best time of year for it!

Between the life insurance, travel insurance and death benefits from both my employer AND from my pension plan I wouldn't be surprised if she wasn't hoping I'd not make it home.

Great -- I'm not the only one in that bracket then. :)

That one was topped just last week by a tourist bus (leaving Disneyland no less) crashing into the side of the freeway or something after the driver fell asleep. 5 or 6 died I believe, but he was not one of them. They're strict on that here so he will be behind bars for a few years, but it's kind of opened everyone's eyes to the absolutely ridiculous policies of professional drivers. I'm not sure about buses, but for taxis, they generally work a 22-24 hour shift but take a couple of naps in the day. Totally unregulated of course.

Anyway, glad you never got caught in any of that. Only thing that's happened to me is the nuclear meltdown scare of 2011, and I was getting my bicycle ready for a Tour de France style journey. ;)
