As the title states, I did my first engagement photo shoot a few days ago of my friend and his fiance at a local park in Denton, MD.
The gear I was using was all in my sig. I mostly stuck with the 50mm 1.8 II. However, I also changed it and used my sigma 70-300 and my canon kit lens for some wider angled shots.

- We met up around sunset which was the perfect time of day to do the photo shoot and it came out better than I expected. They wanted a eastern shore country sort of theme which was a great idea.

Here are only a few out of the photo shoot that I did..

I'm not sure if it's just me, but most of them seem to be out of focus.

They're cute pictures nonetheless :D

Also, the faces of the couple in 1 & 5 is a bit underexposed. Could bump that up or could have used some fill flash.

Thanks for the replies folks,
I plan on investing in a flash very soon.
- I agree, some of these are out of focus for some reason. I do have all of the photos I did that day on my blogsite: http://ambrosefotos.blogspot.com/2012/03/clients.html (external link)
There are plenty more of them that are probably better than the ones I chose to post.

If you look at the ground, you can usually tell where the plane of focus is. Did you shoot these with manual focus? I used to have the 50mm II, so I know that the autofocus on that isn't that great. You gotta give it some time to focus.

Yes, all of these were manually focused.

Lighting is horrible, color is horrible, focus is horrible.

Your first one is the closest to a decent shot you have. It's out of focus and the composition could be better, but at least you isolated your subjects.

The color was meant to have an antique, old kind of feel...

unfortunately your exposure are mostly wrong, they are soft and OOF and the composition could use some help.

in that last pic your exposure is like 3 stops different between the top half and bottom half with a hard shadow. so your faces are completely underexposed.

I see...
I might've used too much PP..?

You used too much PP as well as you lack a good understanding of the fundamentals of portrait photography.

I hope these people didn't pay for these. It's not a bad start to portraits, but you need a lot of work.

Honestly, they loved them.
Like I said I took 400~ shots and about 80 of them came out the best. I've never favored in portrait photography but I figured I'd give it a try with this couple.

Oh, and I did not use any type of flash for these photos. All natural sunset lighting. (besides LR4)
