Reversing only works with short focal lenghts.
You might end up having the plane of focus INSIDE the lens if you reverse the 85.
;)

Ah yea, I just heard about the trick, pardon my ignorance!

Any interesting tricks to do with this lens? I'm still waiting for my copy to be delivered so now I'm just looking to read more about the lens.

Nice photos Gilbert!

Has anyone tried reversing this lens for macro photography? I'm going to buy a ring for my 17-40 lens and wanted to know if I should buy one for the samyang or if I would be better off with extension tubes?

It's quite fun to use with extension tubes, the DoF at f/1.4 and 1x magnification is minuscule!

you will like it. The only bad thing about this lens is that it doesn't focus very close.

That 'focus comment got me scared now *haha

You should be fine depending on what you're shooting. They seem to be using extension tubes^ so that might solve the problem. For anything that's not like a foot or two away, you'll be able to focus easily.

To be honest the MFD is a bit limiting. It focuses down to about 115 cm from the sensor plane, whereas some AF lenses go down to about 85cm. Of course a thin extension tube or some washers in the lens mount fixes that, albeit costing you infinity focus.

Only owned this 85mm lens under a week now, not had that much time shooting with it, jury is still out on the final verdict (?), early days yet.... Seems a long length compared to my Samyang 35mm.

Well it is more than twice as long as your 35mm. I really like using mine for portraits

I tried my Rokinon 85 with a 2X converter and I am thrilled with the results. It gives me a 170mm 2.8 Here are a couple shots.

I used a TC-200 Nikkor. It's a manual converter I just got from KEH for around $50 and the quality is as good as my canon 2x

As demonstrated in this wonderful photo the lens is as sharp as they come. It does require critical focus and when you nail it as you did, it can't be beat!
