OUCH Man, take it easy on a newbie. I just wanted have some fun with my camera, I know I'll not be able to compare with the experts on here. From now on I'll just comment on others' photos and only post photos that are worthy. That may take a while.

he wasnt saying not to post, he was simply saying you should only post hdr photos in a hdr thread. single image tonemaps arent hdr.

Forgive me the thread is titled "Official Photomatix Thread", not "professionals only need post".

I'll delete my photo since it is not worthy.

im not pointing at you or anyone in particular. im saying the photographer needs to photograph a high dynamic range photo first. you do not need to be a professional photographer to photograph and HDR photo. this thread is meant to display HDR photos processed with Photomatix and not simply photos processed with Photomatix.

Regarding the recent comments and posts on C&C:

While this is an application thread, some of the problems with the photos are not just processing related. The actual photography part is the problem too. If people bracketed shoots with high dynamic range, better results will yield.

This is the HDR subforum. Plenty of these photos here in this thread are NOT HDR photos. There are photos processed with Photomatix, but that doesnt make it an HDR photo. HDR stands for high dynamic range. Some of the photos posted are just low dynamic range photos with some pretty colors and contrast. Not HDR. And some photos processed with Photomatix ends up with even less dynamic range than before process.

Like any type of photography, HDR scenes and compositions need to be studied and found. One cannot just run a photo through photomatix with hopes of a pretty photo.

some photos actually not bracketed but a single shot sometimes do yield better images than those bracketed. IMO.
images with water tend to come out cruddy for me if bracketed.

true one photo works sometimes, but thats not my point of the post. I was simply saying, HDR = high dynamic range and not just a photo processed with Photomatix.

Oh don't worry, I won't post a photo in this thread again. And FYI I used three photos in the one I did post. I like the ones that look painted, but guess what I like doesn't fit. I'll keep looking at the nice photos posted here and in the thread for "REALISTIC LOOKING HDRs" as it does produce cool images.

See ya!

As I said to friends last night there is a huge difference in critiquing a photo and being a prick. People shoot how they want to shoot...that is what makes us all different and photography great. This is a photomatix thread....pretty simple, post images processed in photomatix. Oh but you must also be an elite pro. People can say whatever they want really but it all comes down to if you like your work, that's it. As for bracketing and all that talk...yes that is the proper way to shoot an HDR and I have had plenty done that way. Sometimes the shot you are getting can't be done in such a matter...doesn't mean I just throw one image into photomatix and say wow look at that! Take the one raw image and pull it into lightroom where I can adjust the exposure and anything else I need just fine and come to photomatix with 3 or more shots at different exposures...simple really.

Its just the way you go about addressing people here...the last guy posted up his first ever shot processed in photomatix and you basically tell him it sucks without saying it. Makes people want to avoid posting here or on POTN all together...its just rude, period. I know I won't post any more of my stuff here since I was so rudely spoken to. Ill just continue to take my photos and continue to sell them...has worked out plenty for me without the help of all you "pros."

LHeyden, sucks you had to go through that. I didn't see the photo you posted so I can't comment on it. People come here to share and to learn. Don't let this discourage you from learning. Start your own thread and ask for help. You'll find plenty of willing people that will share what they've learned.

Mattpugs, hope you change your mind about sharing your work here.

Well, since I seem to have started the negative side of this, I'll just pull out and let them have at it. Thanks for the honest words, Jason. Your comments were spot on. I'm just sick of the newbies trying to come in and redefine what HDR is without learning what it is supposed to be first.

So post some constructive comments then...sick of newbies, you sound like an awesome dude. You have no idea how long some people have been shooting or doing what. As you mentioned in your great post to me yesterday "I guess some people like them." I guess so too because since becoming unemployed over a year ago I started selling my stuff and the funny part is most of the stuff being bought is HDR. But again, we're "newbies" so what do I know.

Critique...don't criticize, pretty simple.

How are we supposed to learn with comments like "I'm just sick of the newbies"?

I'm an HDR beginner trying to turn an ordinary farm tractor into something a little more interesting. I used 3 images, +2/-2 and correct exposure. After merging the 3 raw images in Photomatix, I touched-up and sharpened in Photoshop Elements. Taken with a 60D and a monopod.
