Leaving Sunday morning headed to New Orleans, cruise from there to Key West, Freeport & Nassau, one week trip. I guess I'm taking all my gear. Any ideas of do's & don'ts or what to shoot? It's my first cruise, really don't know what to expect.

I have never been on a cruise but was told to bring LOTS of money for drinking.

I know that's not an answer to your question but it seems important (well to me)

have a good time and post some pics when you get back

Only been on 1 cruise. Remember that your room essentially gets turned over every day by a youngster. My other recollection was that depending on the excursion you do, esp if its a beach, the "locker" you rent on the beach may not inspire confidence for securing L lenses.

when I travel I usually rent a smaller camera like a Fuji X100 or an Olympus EP3 or Sony NEX model, simply because it's smaller and I'm on vacation so the last thing I want to do is lug around more crap than I already have to. And if it's stolen, it's insured and it's not my camera.

Imodium, it will be your friend. Drink lots of alcohol, it might save you from needing the imodium. enjoy yourself, eat and drink a lot.

I think you can make do with the 24-105mm. I took all my lenses when I went to the same stops. I never took the 24-70mm off the camera. In Freeport I would do the kayaking tour in lucayan national park. They give you dry bags to put the gear in, and you can buy the tickets on the cruise line. You kayak through mangroves and end up at the beach where pirates of the Caribbean was filmed. Its in the top ten beautiful beaches in the world. Overall Freeport isn't good, but if you take an excursion down to that park it's well worth it. Best beach I've ever seen.

Ever changing.

a few shots of lucayan park in freeport. its very secluded with no crowds, shops or anything. if going on your own you have to take your food and water for the day.

I've never been on a cruise, but if I did go on one, I'd leave the 100-400L at home. In fact, all that I would take from your kit is the camera, the 24-105 and the flash.

Good luck and have fun!

I have been on 5 cruises, for where you are going, I would just bring the 24-105.
