The price of the 7D has been dropped to $1,550 from $1,699 on a few websites - good only until June 2, 2012. I'm guessing that means there will be an announcement from Canon regarding the 7D II or a 70D.

If I'm looking to upgrade from a 50D for wedding photography, do you guys think its best to grab a 7D now while its reduced or wait to see what's going to be announced - if anything at all. I know that's a difficult question to answer but I figured this is the best place to kick it around.

There’s a lot of rebates for Canon products, as well as lenses. Doesn’t necessary mean there’s a new 7D II coming out. If I was you, I’d focus on upgrading to full frame for wedding photography :)

If you want a 7D now, why not pick up a refurbished one through the Canon Loyalty Program for less than $1,100?

Prices are down because of rebates. I just picked up my 7D. If you want/need to upgrade and the 7D fits what your looking for, then go for it. If you wait for something new coming out, there is always something newer after it. If the 7D is an upgrade now, it will still be an upgrade from what you have a year from now. If you just have to have the latest and greatest, then wait, and wait or buy now and buy next year again and then the following year and the following year and.........

Thanks guys I'm going to keep an eye on this.

From what I gather, I'd return my 50D to Canon and receive 20% off one of their available refurb models?

It doens't have to be your 50D, it just has to be a Canon. You can get a broken P&S off of e-bay and be able to keep the 50D. ;)

Ah Ha! Fantastic advice.. I was bummed about having to give up my 50D, as I don't hate it.

This happened to me in December when I was thinking of upgrading. Found a 7d for 1400 at the same time the 70-200L was for 1200. Only had half the money saved up and said screw it, put the rest on credit and never looked back. I would buy now!

I would keep your 50D and look into getting a gently used 5DII to go along with it. Your signature only shows you have one camera and you will absolutely need to have a backup camera if your doing weddings.

With people looking to upgrade from the 5DII to the 5DIII and others defecting to the dark side you should be able to find one for a reasonable price.

Adorama was selling the 7D brand new for $1199 for about several hours few days ago. I didn't get one though.

It's funny, because I can walk down the street and buy it for $1295.00 CDN right now from an
Autorized dealer. And I don't get the feeling they are about to release a new version. More that
they are having to drop the price to compete with several brands of camera that are starting
to outsell them. You can only stand behind your brand name and old reputation for so long.
