1100D with Canon 10-22mm lense

Hello,

I have been growing an interest in photography and am about to buy my first DSLR camera. I have been reading weeks about the Canon 1100D and there is a nice bargain here in town with the 18-55mm IS kit lense, but before I buy it I have a question regarding lenses.
As I am new to photography I will first use the kit lense a lot for practise and learning. In the future I would like to shoot landscapes and architecture and I understood that a (ultra) wide angle lense is perfect for that (please correct me if I am wrong).

I have read much about the Canon 10-22mm wide angle lense, which has nice reviews, but my question is: What if in the future I buy this lense for the Canon 1100D? Will it be worth using on the 1100D? Or is it better to upgrade the body first?

Welcome to POTN, using it on the 1100D is perfectly fine.

I use the EF-s 10-22. It works very well on crop-sensor (1100D, others) Canon bodies.

Okay, the 1,6 crop factor was my concern, but I am glad to hear the 10-22mm lense works fine with the 1100D and other models with a crop factor. A full frame body is definitely out of my budget for now and not a good idea since I am just starting out.

The 10-22 only works on APS-C dslr's. Its an EF-S lens.

A small bonus, i got it to work even on a APS-H bodies like my 1D MkIII. Just need to pull out a piece of plastic at the rear of the 10-22mm effortlessly, and use it from 13mm to 22mm. Fantastic result coming from the combo!

That's a very nice lens, you'll like it.

It's definitely worth buying the lens before upgrading your body. For the most part, it's the lenses that improve image quality.

Thats a good mentality to have; practise with current gear before chasing new gear.

10-20 from sigma is also a good lens, either version. I compared the old version vs the canon one and had nothing to complain. The kit lens is pretty good for landscapes if you do not needwider than that.

Thanks for the info NicuB, I will definitely consider the sigma lense too by the time I am ready to a wide angle lense.

I have the 10-22 and I love it

10-22 is an excellent wide lens, just be careful how you ise it, sometimes it can be tricky to get good compositions very wide.
