Weather sealing is no match for a good rain cover. Especially when only half your setup has the former.

The 17-40 is a complete waste if you already have a 17-50.

The 10-22 is probably the best lens for wide angle landscapes on crop.

10-22 + CPL:

Nice shot Sirrith!

I took a look at the samples of the 10-22 on this forum , and not sure about the sharpness ..but it's hard to say just by looking at the pictures .. what do you think?

I use now a 16-35 II on a FF. (calibrated) but some times I regret that I sold the Canon 10-22. It one off the best UWA for a crop body.

Just read the reviews and test.

Its a very sharp lens. The reason its hard to judge sharpness with UWAs is because everything usually looks so small, and anything that is close enough to be big will usually be stretched at the edges!

I suggest going to look on photozone.de for their 10-22 review, they have nice mtf charts that show you how sharp it is.

Also, this photo might help:

On Friday I just took delivery of my 24L. It has a great FOV on my 60D. I've had a busy weekend and haven't shot with it, other then tests shots in the living room. It is the equivalent of 38mm on the crop and you CAN fit a lot in the frame, with no distortion.

I have the 10-22 also and I can say it is very nice indeed.

Made up my mind : Going for the 10-22 , i think together with my 17-50 Tamron it will cover my needs for landscape photography :-)
The Canon for wide landscape and when i need something for smaller or Night shots the Tamron will be more then sufficient (more light intensive)

thanks!

sigma 10-20mm is an excellent lens for a bit cheaper than the 10-22.. but then again, I got a good copy. I hear that many don't focus properly and have other problems..

Personally, I've used both and I prefer the canon in every aspect except the hood. If on a budget, the sigma is fine, if you can afford the canon, its just better.

Good choice. And for weatherproofing you might try this: OpTech Rainsleeve (external link)

I had a 11-16 tokina, but it was to limited, so I got a Tokina 12-24 so it has a big more versatility..I like it.

Think there is no perfect focal length for landscapes. Some shoot with a UWA others with a tele. I use these days quit al lot the 70-200 for landscapes. Depends on the situation what lens I use. Focal length from 10 to 200 is nice to have in your camera bag :o

You won't regret it! I shot with just this lens for a banquet dinner this past weekend with awesome results. I was worried because my 24-70L didn't come in on time but this served me just fine in terms of sharpness.

Just a note on the 100L, if you need the IS, go for it. If you don't need the IS, go for the non-L, the IQ is virtually identical.
