You have at least 10 years to worry about other things. I doubt Canon has even thought that far out. They will most likely go to a new model scheme. The 300D came out in 2003, btw.

The xxxD cameras started with 300D, D meaning Digital (correct me if I'm wrong) so I doubt they'll change the letter anytime soon.

Just like how Toyota market the Altezza in Japan and IS300 in North America, Canon won't reuse model names internationally.

But if I go out more often, I wouldn't have the time to think of these serious questions. If you can't sense the impending doom that is upon us, knowing that, soon enough, Canon's gonna run out of xxxD models to make, I feel sorry for you ;)

It's really just a thought I've had a few times, seeing as Canon has had the tradition of naming cameras x/xx/xxxD for quite some time now. It's not really a thread made out of worry, as much as it is made out of curiosity. And how about that, I was searching for Canon 250D and got plenty of results so I assumed it was a camera... Looking into it further, it apparently is a close-up lens.:)

Anyway, no worries here. I can always switch to Sony if Canon would stop making cameras due to running out of names:)

In 10 years, there will only be at most 2 large DSLR manufacturing divisions anyways, with the way global economies and businesses have been heading.

Since they still use Mark II and Mark IIn notation, they can just go back and release a 600D Mark II and 650D Mark IIN, etc. That will get us through a couple of decades.

Yep, I agree. They are already doing it, so why not continue. I am wondering when the 7D II will come out. Not that I am unhappy with my 7D.

You're all wrong. By the time they run out of combinations for the current configuration the Squid People from the Zulyx Nebula will rule Earth. And they hate photography.
