Yeah new facilities are impressive but i wish they improved normal photographer areas. Mainly turn 1. Its so scarey walking along that ledge with a drop on one side and drunken spectators on the other with less then a metre width to walk along cables and holding a super telephoto.....

The whole walk up through to the top of the esses needs the fence moved back - a metre would do it (the bit between flag points 3 and4 is perfect)
The walk is bad enough, but it gets worse when another photog is coming the other way.

I nearly fell off the wall negotiating the "wall" around the toilet just past flag point4 (exit of V8 race corner) and there was bugger all room near flag point 2 as well.

I believe there is a gate over the back of the track now though which should make access easier

Not scary, just a pain in the a$$ lugging a big lens (8kg worth of 400mm or similar) along the top of a wall 30-40cm wide, with a 5ft fence down one side, with drunk fans leaning over, and a 1.5-2m drop on the other side - and a dozen or so cables for the timing and TV gear right where your walking.

I nearly fell off the wall, and watched another 2 photogs do something similar.
It's one of the reasons I have cut back on the events I do at Barbagallo (haven't been there since the V8s last year)

It will take 1 person to fall off and complain before they do anything about it.....
All the photog equipment i have comes out of my own pocket so the prospect of smashing one of the more expensive units scares the hell out of me haha.

Hyper: yeah ive seen footage from the TT but im more excited than scared haha. I know a few riders died last year but didnt also some spectators?

Manna, the TT is really unbeleivable, the speed of the bikes is something else, but i fell the biggest shock you will get is the size of the roads are just so narrow and you will be able to get roadside almost anywhere within reason.
I really hope you do make it, its a lot of fun.
Last time i shot there was in the 80's and my hero "Joey Dunlop" was king of the road then.

Thanks Scotty.

Hyper: wow i cant believe you where there during the Joey Dunlop days. Its all confirmed ill be heading there but only for the first qualifying week. Wasnt able to find accommodation for the race week. Very excited. I think i will have to re think my plan of attack though cause i dont think i will be able to pan those bikes at my usual 1/30 shutter speed lol.
